Most In the hoop designs are best started but hooping a piece of medium weight tearaway stabilizer. This will offer a temporary surface to work on.

Next is the foundation piece. For plushies it is the main color of the design, for bags it is the base or palette for the applique. The appliques work the same as usual with a series of placements tackdowns and finishing stitches.

When the Details are finished, the last step is the back of the in the hoop project, whether it's a back to a dol or the back of a bag, the last piece is tacked down with the right side of the fabric facing the design you just stitched. There will be a hole where you can turn the design inside out after it is finished. Remember when trimming the outer edges that you must leave a little bit of an edge and not trim right up to the line. They will be hidden when the design is turned.
